Cleveland, OH; March 6, 2019

Playwrights Local & the Young Playwrights Collective present a workshop production of “Tatterhood,” a new musical with book and lyrics by Julia Fisher and music by Vickey McBride. Directed by Tammy Shanley, this special first-look presentation runs April 11 through 13 at the Creative Space at Waterloo Arts in Cleveland.

“Tatterhood” reimagines a Norwegian fairy tale as a new musical with original songs and live accompaniment. At the top of this seventy-minute show, Tatterhood and Sunniva think they understand why their mother never lets them leave their castle. However, when these twin princesses set out on a quest to rescue their kidnapped goat, they learn there is much more to the story than the Queen let on. Magic and danger lurk in the forest as the sisters encounter conniving trolls, condescending townspeople, a kick-lining witch, and nefarious princes…all of whom force the sheltered girls to confront how the outside world really sees them. By the end of this journey, they’ve come to new insights about sisterhood, identity, and trust in oneself.

“This production of ‘Tatterhood’ follows our very successful recent staged reading of the play, so we’re excited to take it to the next level,” said David Todd, Artistic Director of Playwrights Local. “It’s also a chance to co-present with our Young Playwrights Collective. We’ve been looking for ways to produce more plays by having collaborators take on some of the workload. In this case, having the YPC and especially the playwright, Julia Fisher, onboard made this play possible.”

The cast of “Tatterhood” features Sam Dee, Katie Huskey, Bri Lazarchik, and Carrie Williams. Live music for the production is by Vickey McBride and social media promotions are by Young Playwrights Collective coordinator Hannah Rae Leach. Additional designers and crew members will be listed on the event webpage at http://www.playwrightslocal.org/tatterhood/.

“Tatterhood”runs April 11 through 13, 2019, with performances Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. All shows will be at the Creative Space at Waterloo Arts (397 E. 156th Street, Cleveland, OH 44110).
