African-American History Month Celebration: Honoring Langston Hughes 

Tuesday, February 21, 2012, 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Calling all young poets! Ages 10-12! In honor of African-American History Month, the Memorial-Nottingham Branch would like to celebrate this joyous month by honoring the famous American poet, social activist, novelist, playwright, and columnist, Mr. James Mercer Langston Hughes.  Two of Mr. Langston’s famous titles, The Sweet and Sour Animal Book and My People, will be read.  Following the story, come create your very own poem to take home.

African American History Month Folktale Celebration

Monday, February 27, 2012, 1:30-2:30 p.m.

 Children, young adults, and parents join our very own Cleveland Public Library Multicultural Storyteller, Ms. Donna Willingham for an hour of inspirational African and African-American folktales. 

 Ms. Willingham is currently a member of the Cleveland Association of Black Storytellers, Inc. and the National Association of Black Storytellers, Inc. She told the "tallest tale" and won the 1997 "Liars' contest" at the National Black Storytellers Festival and Conference, held in Cleveland, Ohio of that year.

Maria F. Estrella is the new Cleveland Public Library Children’s Librarian at Memorial-Nottingham Branch.

Maria F. Estrella is the new Cleveland Public Library Children’s Librarian at Memorial-Nottingham Branch. She has several years of public and special library experience, including technical training, conducting story times in Spanish and English, and implementing small group programs for children, teenagers, and adults. Maria’s undergraduate degree from Cleveland State University is in Bachelors of Arts and Sciences, majoring in Social Work and Spanish, and she has recently received a Master’s of Library and Information Science at Kent State University. Maria is extremely honored and excited to work in North Collinwood community, and is recently making arrangements to visit all neighborhood schools, and day cares. If you have not met her yet, make sure you attend some of the regular Children’s and Young Adult Programs at Memorial-Nottingham Branch.
