AT THE MARKET Some new faces at the market last Saturday, notably Devorah Jones with wholesome baked goods – a sturdy cornbread stuffed with red and green pepper bits, assorted dinner rolls and dear little focaccias adorned with green olives or caramelized onions (really caramelized, not browned – the difference being about an hour and 40 minutes). The focaccia itself is a two-day process, starting with a biga. Great to have breads at the market again.
And Joe Zastawny of Harvest in Christ has reappeared – he is “a credentialed professional in the field of dietetics, and versed in whole food nutrition and natural health principles.” He’s also a man with a mission: to grow organic veggies on urban lots, using a combination of modern science and Biblical texts, as a way of bringing wholesome food to young urban families and bridging Cleveland’s racial divides. Check out his page on facebook https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Harvest-in-Christ/102961523130118. Coit Road Farmers’ Market is at the corner of Coit & Woodworth in East Cleveland. www.coitmarket. org. Open year-round Saturday 8 am to 1 pm; April-November Wednesdays 10 am – 1 pm. 216-249-5455 during market hours.
