We all like good news and I cannot think of a more important decision for the St. Clair Avenue corridor than Manitowoc / Cleveland Range Inc.’s announcement that not only will they be staying in the community, rather than relocating to Indiana, but they plan on building their new headquarters right on St Clair Avenue at Amsterdam Road. I cannot begin to tell you what this means for the Nottingham Village neighborhood.
Cleveland Range will boost their employment in Phase I to 260 good paying jobs with an additional 100 jobs being created and relocated here to operate their headquarters facility which is tentatively proposed to be 30,000 square feet on two floors. They are also talking with the City of Cleveland’s Economic Department to expand their manufacturing facility which is on the corner of East 179th Street and St Clair Avenue.
Furthermore, the City has redefined the St Clair Corridor from East 170th Street east to Nottingham Road as the Nottingham Village Commerce Park initiative. There will be intensified code enforcement on commercial and industrial properties as well as demolition and site acquisition for future industrial growth and development.
We have always prided ourselves in Ward 11 for being pro-business and pro-development but not at the expense of the community. This project only magnifies that attitude. We will be removing blight and sub-standard properties for new industrial development and job creation while at the same time greening the St Clair corridor. Please stay tuned for future updates on this development and other projects which are either in the design or construction stage.
