Waterloo's newest gallery to feature the work of Michelangelo Lovelace at Inaugural Exhibition

One of the works of art by Michelangelo that we will exhibited in the gallery.

Well-known and regarded artist, Michelangelo Lovelace, will have his work featured in the inaugural exhibition of Waterloo’s newest art gallery, the Maria Neil Project. The opening will take place on Friday, September 6 at 6 pm as a part of the growing neighborhood’s ‘Walk All Over Waterloo’ first Friday event.

Lovelace has been painting and drawing in Cleveland for more than 25 years. His work is very often based on his life growing up in the urban neighborhoods of Cleveland. While his paintings are vibrant and colorful, the also depict a realness of life for many people in urban centers today. His serious social commentary about drugs, violence, and other community ills is peppered with humor and, in many instances, conveys a sense of hope for the future of those neighborhoods.

The exhibition will feature some of Lovelace’s trademark large-scale paintings as well as brand new work exhibiting for the first time.

The Maria Neil Art Project is a venture created by avid art collectors and patrons, John Farina and Adam Tully. They started the business in early 2012 as a way to bring art to nontraditional spaces and encourage collecting. With their recent move to the Collinwood neighborhood, they opted to launch a gallery space as a way to not only better promote the many unrepresented and under represented artists, but also to be a part of enhancing the community they live in. Some of their recent exhibitions have included Liz Maugans, Lori Kella and Bridget Ginley.

In addition to art exhibition, the Maria Neil Art Project will also be a local satellite location for custom framer Frameworks of Bedford.

The exhibition opens with a reception on Friday, September 6 and will run through Friday, October 18. The gallery is located at 15813 Waterloo Rd and is open Fridays from 5 – 8, Saturdays from 12 – 5 and Sundays from 11 - 3.
