Johnny Appleseed teaches St. Jerome Students about apples.

The Kindergarten and First grade students at St. Jerome School got to learn first hand from Johnny Appleseed himself this week how apples go from seeds to the delicous treats we eat for snacks, in sauce, pies and of course Patterson Fruit Farms famous apple fritters! The students ventured to Patterson's this week for hands-on lessons in the life cycle of an apple seed. The children were able to watch a video on the process of making apple cider. Johnny Appleseed explained to them how a tiny seed can transform into a giant tree that provides us with this scrumptous fruit. They were given a hay ride through the apple orchards and were able to explore a giant corn maze. When asked why she chose Patterson's as a field trip destination, first grade teacher Katie Coan said, "There is nothing more rewarding for the children then to learn a lesson, especially one related to science, then get to have hands-on field experience". That is just one of many great interactive field trips the students at St. Jerome School get to experience throughout the year. Making real-world connections is vital to creating life-long learners. When asked their favorite part of the field trip, every student shouted something different. There is something for every type of learner at Pattersons and the St. Jerome students just ate it up!
