Strong Parental Involvement = Student Success

The days might be getting shorter and the temperatures are getting cooler, but that is not keeping Memorial parents from supporting their children.  September was a busy month at Memorial with both Open house and Father’s Walk.  Memorial parents made a strong showing at both.

“I think its important that the kids know we are a team”, said Mrs. Smith, mother of a Memorial 2nd grader.  “We have to show up to drive that message home.”

And show up they did.  Over 100 families participated in Open House complete with classroom visits, a scavenger hunt, and a raffle.

Memorial School also participated in Cleveland’s city wide Father’s Walk on September 17th.  The event encourages dad’s to take a more active role in their children’s educations.  Fifty dads showed up on the 17th to have breakfast, take a picture, and walk their scholar to class.

“I told my boss I was coming in late” said Mr. Johnson, father of Lisa and Jeffery Johnson.  “I just felt I needed to be there.  It’s important. “

The staff was thrilled to have so many parent visitors and is looking forward to Family Literacy Night and Parent Teacher Conferences later on this month.

Memorial is located at 410 E. 152nd St. and serves grades PreK-8.  The state of Ohio’s Step Up to Quality program recently awarded its preschool 5 stars-the highest designation available.  The school boasts a state of the art computer lab, media center, and SMART Boards in every classroom. Interested families should call the main office at 216.692.4180 for more information.
