Friends of Euclid Creek Announces Fourth Annual Day in the Life of Euclid Creek

Event Flyer

Friends of Euclid Creek (FOEC), Cleveland Metroparks Watershed Volunteer Program and Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District are pleased to announce their fourth annual Day in the Life of Euclid Creek event on Saturday, July 15th from 9am to 2:30pm.  This family friendly event provides a snapshot of a typical day in Euclid Creek, highlighting water quality in an urban watershed through a variety of monitoring demonstrations and tours of restoration projects from the headwaters to the mouth at Lake Erie.

The day will start at Cleveland Metroparks Acacia Reservation from 9-10am. Participants can choose between a water quality monitoring demonstration to see what is tested in the watershed or a behind-the-scenes tour of the extensive restoration underway.  A new feature this year includes a Water Quality Quest led by researchers and students from Kent State University.

We will then head to the Highland Heights Community Park from 10:45-11:45am, for aquatic invertebrate sampling and a plant identification hike at the Dusty Goldenrod Preserve.

The last stop will be at Euclid Creek Reservation in Wildwood Park from 12:30-1:15pm.  A demonstration will display local fish, which reflect the water quality and species diversity in the area.  A wetland restoration tour will highlight progress of the 2013 restoration and showcase other important water quality projects in the area.

The day will end with music, games and lunch at Wildwood Park and a Water Quality Quest wrap-up of the day’s results from 1:15-2:30pm.  Exhibitors will highlight community and water focused initiatives.  Cleveland Metroparks will host a special celebration of their 100-year anniversary with a centennial dessert!  And the day will wrap up with a free raffle.  Come get involved, observe and celebrate the Euclid Creek watershed!
