Oliver H. Perry welcomes families to 'meet and greet'

Oliver H. Perry School will host a “meet and greet” from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11 at the school.

Registered students and their families, as well as families that may want to send their children to Oliver H. Perry can meet new Principal Brittani Irvin, teachers, staff and the school’s leadership team. Classes for the 2017-18 school year will begin Monday, Aug. 14.

As a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District's Aspiring Principals Academy, a leadership training program, Irvin spent last school year at Harvey Rice School. She previously was a teacher development facilitator and teacher in New York City schools.

“I have a passion for creative learning opportunities for scholars, and I believe that arts-integrated learning has a powerful impact on student achievement," she said. "I also believe that parent and community engagement is critical to a school's success.”

Oliver H. Perry, located at 18400 Schenely Ave., is for preschool through eighth grade. The school partners with the Center for Arts-Inspired Learning and ZENworks, which teaches skills through the practice of yoga.

Perry has new middle-school and art teachers this year and offers middle-school sports in volleyball, basketball and track.

A new building for the school is under construction on the same property and is to be completed in 2018. The work is among construction projects that CMSD is undertaking with state money and proceeds from a bond issue that voters approved in 2014.
