What’s Cooking in Collinwood: Cooking with Cops Recap

5th District Commander Sammy Morris and 50/50 Raffle and Coloring Contest Winners

When it comes to improving community and police relations “Cooking with Cops” was a recipe for success. Collinwood & Nottingham Villages Development Corp in partnership with St. Clair Superior Development Corp hosted Cooking with Cops on Thursday November 16, 2017 at Five Pointe Community Center. Participants included local residents, students from Job Corp, volunteers from Cleveland Clinic and officers from Cleveland Police 5th District. We had a diverse group of participants of all ages; everyone was a part of making our full course meal.

“Community building through service” “Cooking with Cops kicks off with a full house of chefs. Nothing brings people together like cooking and eating together!” says Jamar Doyle, managing Director of Collinwood & Nottingham Villages Development Corp

The full course meal included a salad filled with healthy veggies, mashed potatoes, sweet corn, rotisserie chicken, and fall sugar cookies. We also included a vegetarian option which was vegetarian meatballs. We set the room up in cooking stations and each station was in charge of cooking a specific dish.

We prepped together, cooked together, served together, and ate together. We also had a turkey coloring contest for the kids and a 50/50 raffle as we continue our ongoing efforts to help the victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.  Lastly, we raffled off a turkey to a family to eat for Thanksgiving. This event was a true success. Everyone had a good time and definitely made a bond with our 5th District Police officers.

Cooking with Cops was supported by Ward 8 Councilman Michael Polensek, Cuyahoga County Councilman Anthony Hairston, Cleveland Police 5th District, City of Cleveland Community Relations Board and Cleveland Neighborhood Progress.
