Kickin' it with Cops IS BACK: Cleanin' with Cops Recap

5th District Commander Sammy Morris and resident cleaning a vacant lot

Collinwood & Nottingham Villages Development Corp in partnership with Cleveland Police Foundation and Litterbugz hosted “Cleanin’ with Cops” on Saturday April 21, 2018 at Humphrey Park 207 E. 161st Cleveland, Oh 44110 from 12:30pm-4:00pm. Residents, students, and community stakeholders came together to clean the community. Participants met at Humphrey Park to receive T-shirts, cleaning supplies, and “Kickin’ it with Cops in CLE” button. We split into teams to make sure we clean North and South Collinwood. 5th District Commander Sammy Morris along with Lieut. Montanaro and few other 5th District officers cleaned the South Collinwood neighborhood. We cleaned along E. 152nd Street, E. 140th St, Aspinwall Ave, etc.

After two hours of cleaning, we collected over 60 bags of trash between both neighborhoods. “Residents were able to connect with officers one on one, that’s the beauty of Kickin’ it with Cops” said Kristian Hunter, Americorps VISTA of Collinwood & Nottingham Villages Development Corp/Creator of Kickin’ it with Cops.

Ward 8 Councilman Polensek and Ward 10 Councilman Hairston attended and supported the event. After cleaning, we held a post-clean party at Five Pointe Community Center. Participants won a variety of gift cards and grand prize was tickets to the Indians game. This was a city-wide cleaning competition. Organizers are working on counting the bags collected across each District. The winning District will be announced later.
