Monday Meetup September 9: What's Up with East Branch Euclid Creek?
Join Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD), Cleveland Metroparks, and Friends of Euclid Creek for a tour of the stream restoration project on the East Branch of Euclid Creek.
When: September 09 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Where: Willoughby-Eastlake School of Innovation, 32500 Chardon Rd, Willoughby Hills- Park behind the building in the southern parking lot and meet at the southwest corner of the parking lot to begin the tour.
The Euclid Creek Watershed Program Manager and Willoughby-Eastlake School of Innovation representatives will lead Cleveland Metroparks Watershed Volunteers, Friends of Euclid Creek Members, and interested members of the public on a guided tour of the recent restoration project performed by Biohabitats and Meadville Land Service, Inc.
This exciting project involved removing undersized culverts, moving the stream back to its original channel, and adding critical in stream habitat for fish and macroinvertebrates (bugs). The project was supported by the City of Willoughby Hills, Cleveland Metroparks, Cuyahoga SWCD, First Energy, Friends of Euclid Creek, Lake County SWCD, Lake County Stormwater Management Department, Ohio EPA, Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, and Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools. But what made this project so special was the opportunity to engage with Willoughby-Eastlake School of Innovation teachers and students throughout the project from design to long-term management.
Come hear about the project, it's unique challenges, and the great partnerships that made it a success.
Wear closed toe shoes that you don't mind getting wet and long pants. The site has experienced significant growth of plants which we will be walking amongst.
