A Day in the Life of Euclid Creek 2016

Macroinvertebrate Sampling

The Friends of Euclid Creek (FOEC), a grass-roots, non-profit charitable organization which advocates for the health of the Euclid Creek watershed, is pleased to announce its third annual Day in the Life of Euclid Creek event on Saturday, July 16th from 9am to 2:30pm.  The event provides a snapshot of a typical day in Euclid Creek, highlighting water quality in an urban watershed through monitoring, macroinvertebrate sampling, and electrofishing. Come learn about how monitoring, restoration efforts, and green infrastructure help keep the water clean!

The day will start at Cleveland Metroparks Acacia Reservation from 9-10am. Participants can choose between a water quality monitoring demonstration to see what is tested in the watershed or a walking tour to show restoration plans and projects.

We will then head to Greenwood Farm in Richmond Heights from 10:45-11:45am, for macroinvertebrate sampling and a clean water investment tour.  Macroinvertebrate sampling provides a look at the health of the water through the aquatic insects present. The clean water tour will educate on green infrastructure, which helps reduce stormwater and pollution going into the creek.

The last stop will be at the Euclid Creek Reservation in Wildwood Park from 12:30-1:15pm. An electrofishing demonstration will be given to display the types of fish present, which reflects the water quality and species diversity in the area. A wetland restoration tour will also be given to show the progress of the 2013 project and highlight the benefits wetlands serve to our communities and freshwater.

The day will end with lunch at Wildwood Park and conversation of the day’s results from 1:15-2:30pm. Information tables will highlight the community and water focused initiatives and Friends of Euclid Creek will host a special celebration of their 15 year anniversary!  The day will wrap up with a free raffle.  Come get involved, observe, and celebrate the Euclid Creek watershed!
