Collinwood High School Meet & Greet introduces new staff to community

On July 1, 2013 there was a "Meet and Greet" held at Collinwood High School for the school's parents, staff and students to meet and converse with one another. The new principals and the new building administrator started off the night by introducing themselves and declaring their roles at Collinwood. There was a performance by the school's band and high-steppers. There were also refreshments and snacks served at the event. Although Ms. Nickerson, Mr. Schiebelhood and Mrs. Carlson were there, I was only able to speak briefly with Mr. Schiebelhod and Ms. Nickerson to ask them a few questions.

Ms. Nickerson will be the principal for the New Tech Academy students. She was the principal at East Tech for the last four years and was also the principal at JFK for ten years. The Interior Fashion Design students will become New Tech Academy students and the Teaching Professions students will choose which academy they want to be in. She has heard many good things about Collinwood such as how it is a good school filled with good students who have a community that is very involved.

Ms. Nickerson is looking forward to getting to know the students at Collinwood and being an involved principal. She feels that she has a lot to offer because she is very knowledgeable about things for students to get into after high school such as the army. She helps students reach their full potential and always encourages them. Her first steps to improving the school are finding out what it is that the students want, improving classroom instruction and making sure that the teachers are teaching correctly.

Mr. Schiebelhood will be the principal for the Advanced Placement Academy. He has worked as a principal at South High School and at Lincoln West. In the AP Academy they will be prepped for college by going through a rigorous academic program.

He has heard that Collinwood has a great tradition, a great track team and has great cheerleaders. Getting to know the students at Collinwood is what Mr. Schiebelhood is looking forward to the most this upcoming school year. His enthusiastic attitude and his knowledge are what he feels he brings to the table that would be beneficial to the school. The first step he is going to take in improving the school is scheduling classes that the students need.

I enjoyed myself at the event and I enjoyed meeting my school's new staff. I can't wait to see what's in store for the upcoming 2013-2014 school year at Collinwood High School.
