Councilman's Corner

It has been an interesting month.  Finally, the Public Works Department is getting on top of the chuckhole problem. It has been a difficult time for motorists and I appreciate your patience and understanding. Obviously, I am not happy with the response from the City and the Department MUST do a better job going into next year with road repair.

My sincere thanks to MetroParks on their Friday Evening concert series at Euclid Beach Park. It was an overwhelming success with great music and great attendance.  We all look forward to these concerts taking place next summer as well.

Waterloo Road as you should know is open in both directions now.  Be careful of the construction crews still working on the street though. ODOT is telling us to drive carefully and that the project should be wrapped up sometime in October.  The streetscape is starting to take shape.

Speaking of ODOT, I have been working closely with them over the Eddy Road overpass since it is now part of the new Ward 8. Crews have moved quickly on the construction and I am impressed by the scope of work and the design of the project especially the decorative fencing and lighting on the overpass.  These features will greatly enhance this once drab roadway.  The next project is the replacement of our pedestrian bridge that was hit by a truck.  The design for this bridge is underway and will be another unique design.  Stay tuned.

Due to the ongoing foreclosure crisis please pay special attention to any vacant and abandoned house on your street. Should you see any strange activity at the home please immediately call the Police at 9-1-1. If the home is unsecure please call the housing hotline at (216) 664-2007 or my office at (216) 664-4236. We are working very closely with our development corporations and the Cuyahoga County LandBank to address these nuisance properties.

I appreciate Mayor Jackson coming out to our last Neighborhood Meeting on August 20th at the Collinwood Recreation Center. I thank all the neighborhood leaders and residents who came out to hear the Mayor and discuss with him our community concerns, specifically housing code enforcement and public safety. The Mayor knows, as well as anyone, that our community is organized and engaged. We feel very passionately that the city needs to be a better partner with us in the concerns we raised.  Thank you once again for your participation and concern about our community.

School is in session – please drive carefully and watch out for our children. I look forward to see everyone at all of our Neighborhood Association meetings and events in the community that will be taking place throughout the months ahead.

As always you can reach me at my office at (216) 664-4236 or email at mpolensek@clevelandcitycouncil.org.
