Domestic Violence Group Coming This Spring

Coming soon to Collinwood this spring and sponsored by Center for Advanced Mental Health Practice Foundation will be a sixteen week group on the subject of Domestic Violence. Dates, times, and location to be determined. "You ask yourself: `Is it bad enough for me to call it domestic violence? Is it bad enough for me to call it abuse? Is it bad enough for me to call the police? Is it bad enough for me to leave?"'

If you know of someone who is in this predicament you can reach out and help them by sharing this information with them or other concerned individuals. Here are a few of the many statistics regarding domestic violence provided by the National Coalition against Domestic Violence listed on their website www.dvcac.org or www.odvn.org. Every 9 seconds in the US, a woman is assaulted or beaten. On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of [some form of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime.

On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide. Intimate partner violence accounts for 15% of all violent crime. Women between the ages of 18-24 are most commonly abused by an intimate partner.

There is limited space for only ten to twelve people, so sign up as early as you can. Please contact Kelly Diamond at (216)-694-8052 or kellydiamond77@gmail.com for more information or to join.
