Oliver H. Perry Classroom Spot Light

Our first classroom spotlight is focused on Mrs. Salomon’s kindergarten class. Friday mornings are a busy time in room 119. The students can be found interacting with various hands-on center activities. Mrs. Salomon chooses these activities for specific groups of students who are currently working towards mastery of the same skill and standard. On this particular morning, students were either working with sight words to create and write their own sentences, practicing their CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) blending abilities, working in a small writing group guided by Mrs. Salomon, or exploring educational apps on Ipads. Not only does center time give young students a chance to practice skills that are concentrated on their abilities and development, but the students are also gaining the skills and confidence to be more independent in their learning.
