Margo Hudson & CCYA Back-to-School Event
Saturday, September 23rd the Collinwood Library hosted our fall kick-off of the Collinwood Community Youth Academy. Guest speaker, Margo Hudson from Seeds of Literacy, introduced our back-to-school event by talking about how literacy/reading helped her to complete her GED and attain a better personal outlook. “I can do anything now” has become her new personal mantra. Reiterating that as an illiterate adult she was unable to complete the testing necessary for her to get the jobs she wanted, she tried 6 different times to complete the GED before being successful. All the while she taught herself to read and understand the words on the page. In 2016 she received the Governor’s Courage Award for her continued perseverance.
Afterwards, kids entertained themselves with art projects at the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Art-to-Go! bus located in our parking lot, a scavenger hunt that took them inside and outside the library, and building projects with Legos and Bunchems.
