Vikings come up short vs. Benedictine

VASJ fell to visiting Benedictine, 89-66, on Dec. 12.

Jaden Hameed led all scorers with 41 points for the Vikings in the loss. Sean Johnson chipped in 9.

“We are where we are at as a program now and it isn’t pretty and I accept responsibility. Let’s be real, many folks have been waiting a long time for us to be in this position. I look forward to the challenge of getting better every week. We will improve, we have no other choice,” VASJ coach Babe Kwasniak said.

Jashun Cobb had 22 points and Detric Hearst added 16 for the Bengals.

Freshman Sam Brown provided a spark to help the Bengals go ahead by double-digits. He made a pair of free throws after an offensive rebound, put back another miss, then laid in an and-one layup off a feed from Hearst to put Benedictine up, 38-25.

The Bengals took a 40-29 lead into half.

Benedictine maintained its lead in the third and carried a 61-43 advantage into the fourth when Cobb found Jalen Brown for a layup. A quick VASJ run cut the Bengals’ lead to 13, 64-51, when Eric Buckner knocked down a 3 to spark a 13-0 run that ended the Vikings’ hopes to rally.
